The board's future Empty
PostSubject: The board's future   The board's future EmptyTue Oct 30, 2007 3:01 pm

When I sent this newsletter one week ago, I did it under fear, because I was afraid my colleagues would get really mad after I leave the FM team and remove my tutorials (who are now copyrighted). More, I was having a bad patch and I needed some rest.

Since that day, I am learning PHP/MySQL, so I would be less in the "unknown" if I build a phpbb forum (or any other self-hosted board). But I still don't feel ready for this move, but on the other side, the new FM policy itches me and I have some bad feelings about what would happen.

So I open this poll.

------------
On my side, whatever we stay here or move, we should enlarge the services for non-FM sites. Being too specialized in only one host has become a weak point. Enlarging the services can guarantee its future.

The thing is that If you move the forum, I don't think you'll get a better FREE host without boring and unwished commercials. Plus, you might have a subdomain. (not something like: http://www.google.ca/hosting/regularuser/ishimaru-design.html) It's totally your choice...

You must enlarge. It would be nice.

Laurent told me that the best solution, if I move, would be to purchase a paid mutual hosting at OVH, but some infos are missing :
1- The prices are in Euros -> Is there a way for Canadians ?
2- I have no credit card and OVH doesn't appear in the list on my Desjardins AccèsD account when I pay bills, so I don't know if there is another way...

that's right that if we take an other service, we will have ads everywhere, maybe it won't be free and as easy as here... That's why I would prefer to stay here (especially that this forum has already a lot a messages and members, and our google place will decrease :S)

Wink

Not necessarily, if Ishimaru Chiaki can get a copy of the messages from forumotion, then it can be put into a real phpBB forum (*possibly*)

For now, we can't retrieve the database of a forumotion.

Now I have learned that I have another thing who keeps me from leaving forumotion : my brother (IRL). He has a FFXI linkshell board on forumotion. He previously created it for a linkshell who disbanded itself, and now, he's going to re-use his board for a new linkshell.

If I finally don't move, I can always use the stonerocket account (not created yet) for my PHP/MySQL
